Some of you might recognize this beauty of a Land Cruiser from our earlier social media posts in 2024 where we've done a custom rear bumper with twin carriers and rock sliders which is paired with brush bars to a MCC front bumper.
The owner Francois Joubert, recently contacted us again to get the Cruiser properly kitted out for a overlanding trip through off the grid parts of Africa. Our first idea was an unleaded flow bin on top of the rooftop tent, but turns out he had other ideas!
First solution he needed was storage, and boy was there enough space to let the ideas flow! We had a short time frame, but due to the limit of complete-length drawer systems on the market which fill the complete single cab bed of the Cruiser we decided to do what we do best, go custom!
We created a fully custom built drawer system which consists of two drawers, each over two meters in length running on a full roller bearing system.
Francois being in the upholstery industry, we had to provide him with a sense of "homesickness" when he is away, so we carpeted the entire system in black automotive carpet which is easy to clean and will make him feel right at home 2000km away. Saving all the space we can, we've added three separate storage compartments on each side of the wheel wells with removal tops.
Now we had 4 enormous canopy doors to sort out. We built two side compartments with various shelving options to provide Francois with the ultimate storage solutions with ease of access anywhere he might stop! This also has been fully carpeted.
Going off-grid basically means you head to volunteered load shedding. Therefore as a proud Victron dealer and installer, we sure got you covered! For Francois we went with a budget 12V system covering all the necessities you might require on a medium duration off-grid trip. On the driver side of the vehicle we've built a specific compartment for this purpose.
The system includes the following components: Victron DC/DC charger (charging your secondary Lithium battery through your main car battery whilst driving and increasing the charging volume), Victron MPPT charger with a 210W solar panel fitted on the rooftop tent, Victron Phoenix inverter for charging small appliances such as laptops and cameras along with various 12V output sockets and chargers. Lighting wise we've added over 8 LED modules in the interior of the canopy along with 6 spotlights on the roof rack.
Now that the electronics has been sorted out, it means the 12V fridge can be plugged in, which means there should be cold beer, which means that cold beer needs to be put somewhere once opened, now where should that be? The solution, one of Custom Leisure Tech's side tables which fit on the side of the canopy and is easily removeable! We fitted a aluminum extrusion on the side of the canopy and Bob's your uncle, not Francois's though we don't know his uncle.
We wish Francois all the best for his upcoming trip and thank him for his continued support of the BOC brand! We can create the ultimate custom build for you as well!
